MARRIAGE & DIVORCE

As of June 2015, Louisiana now recognizes same sex marriage. As a result, same sex couples are free to marry or divorce as they wish. Whether you are interesting in marrying your partner, were previously married out of state and have questions about the effect of that marriage now, or you are seeking a divorce, I can help you navigate through the evolving body of law surrounding same sex marriage as it develops.

ADOPTION

In the wake of the June 2015 United States Supreme Court ruling acknowledging the validity of same sex marriage nationwide, Louisiana law related to adoption is anticipated to change such that same sex spouses can both be the legal parents of the same child. Whether you are interested in adopting a child with your spouse for the first time, or you would like to adopt your spouse's child, I can work with you and your spouse to help protect the interests of your family.

NAME CHANGE & BIRTH CERTIFICATE MODIFICATION

There are many reasons you may want to obtain a legal name change for you or your child. If you are transgender, you may also be interested in changing the gender marker (i.e., changing the sex) on your birth certificate. I can explain those processes, help you determine if you or your child are eligible for either option, and help you obtain legal name changes and other birth certificate modifications.
